The game of Caribbean Stud is very simple to play, since each player and the dealer are dealt five cards and no additional cards can be drawn. A regular deck of 52 cards is used with no jokers or wild cards in use. Betters play against a house dealer, not each other.

To play the game, each player must make an Ante bet in the Ante wager circle. Players with wagers receive five cards, as does the dealer. As an enticement, the dealer will expose a single card from their hand. After seeing the dealer’s up card and their own five-card hand, players must either fold and lose their Ante, or place a Bet of double their Ante wager in the Bet wager circle.

Once all players have placed their Bets or folded, the dealer will expose their own hand. Standard poker hand rankings apply, and if a players’ hand is higher than the dealers’ then the Ante will pay even money. The Bet portion of the player’s hand is only paid if they beat the dealer’s hand AND the dealer “qualifies” with a hand of Ace/King high or better, such as a pair or higher poker hand. If the player and the dealer have the same hand (such as both holding a 7-high straight), both the Ante and Bet wagers are a push and no money changes hands.
